Surface analysis of conditions which gave rise to the severe afternoon storms.

This is the vault region of the storm. It's an area of weak radar returns nestled between the supercells updraft, core region and forward flank inflow. It's a dangerous area to reside in as a chase, not because a tornado will suddenly form or anything, but rather because this is where some of the largest hail likes to reside. The larger the hail, the more translucent it will appear and an area of clearing might actually be filled with baseballs or larger masses. You can actually see striations in the cloud and massive hail stones create hail streaks as they fall through the cloud.

I'm not sure who or where exactly a tornado report came from, but someone who was dubiously right up under the storm reported a tornado. I looked for the possible tornado at the time.

Well, this is where the tornado was supposed to have been. With the haze and distance I did not see much, so I'm not going to say I tornado! But if there was one, it should have been right there!

Well, all good things must come to an end and so too did this supercell. It slowly began to collapse before we could get up close, but it did offer some nice lightning before it totally died!

Cell service was hit and miss in this part of Texas. I actually had to resort to using my phone back at the motel later in the evening because the wi-fi was terribly slow. Even crazier was the LAN which was slower than the wi-fi!!!! Thank goodness for cellular internet! Now I can update the chase page and let everyone know I'm still alive!

This little guy was spending the night with us in our hotel room... I'm not sure how long this cricket or whatever it was had been dead but it was not one of those "rest easy" signs hahahah.
