So the road I was on became increasingly more and more bogged down. It was to the point where traffic was down to 5mph with so many chasers, spotters and locals coming up from the metro Oklahoma area to see the storms.
For my own safety I bailed south on some road that looked to continue over a small creek bed. About 15 others followed me!
Heading down the road which was paved, things slowly got worse and worse. The pavement turned to gravel, which then turned to Oklahoma clay and mud.
If you've never driven on a dirt road in Oklahoma, basically the instant it get's wet your stuck and not moving!
A random local who was in a rush to leave their house jumped out from a hidden driveway and slowed me down from 40 mph to 10 mph! This was bad!
We were not able to out run the moisture HP storm and a pocket of rotation went right over head!
Then the rain and hail started as we crossed the dry river bed that my GPS said there was a bridge over!!!
The driver river quickly became a wet hail filled river and only 5 cars behind me made it though, the other were trapped!
On the radio one of the chasers said that it was getting bad as baseballs began to take their car apart. I was just far enough south that I only had a few golf balls to worry about and then I made it into the clear.
These are situations that storm chasers should never find themselves in.
