It's hard to explain to someone who's not deeply interested in the weather what all these clouds mean, but the cloud here says "I'm eating dinner".
This was what the radar looked like at the time as the storm was ramping back up.
I don't know what more impressive, all the chasers running away or the storms radar signature?
I think the chasers win here!
Here's a wide shot showing more of the structure.
This was the last photo of the storm I was able to get in its full capacity.
What happened here, exactly as forecast by the HRRR, was that a line of convection, a messy cluster of stuff, worked its way north along the Colorado, Kansas border and just polluted the entire atmosphere.
It collided with the supercell and that was the beginning of the end of the days chase.
The storm did try a few times to back build and draw in scud to generate a new wall cloud but it never really attached itself.
The air was just too cold and stable, the temperature was down to like 57F, which in my books is not friendly for storms.
This was the last photo of the days chase.
Before leaving I met another chaser, Sean Ramsey. He was really nice, I was having a bit of a data issue and his computer filled the void.
We spoke for a little while and then departed but not before sharing twitter handles.
While heading south on Highway 71 just beyond Last Chance, Jen and I spotted this vacant homestead.
I though it would make for some cool photos, and Jen thought so too.
Many of these old wooden outbuilding begin to twist slowly before they eventually collapse.
Here's Jen having a closer look at the vacant home. She was actually really eager and wanted to go inside but I convinced her otherwise.
Trespassing in a collapsing home with open toed sandals is probably not a great idea, especially when a ton of wildlife has repossessed the building.
Jen and I finally arrived in Limon, Colorado on interstate 70.
We were able to grab one of the last hotel rooms in the town as a plethora of chasers descended upon it.
But the last room did come at a price, it was the "Honeymoon Suite" with the "Honymoon Bill" LOL.
I did get my monies worth, we both used the hot tub to the hilt!
Jen and I also had dinner surrounded by fellow chasers at a local bar. It was a fun time for sure!
