It's so eerie yet beautiful to see the sky, sun and ice.
Ice storms are natures way of tree trimming.
The back of a rental property I own in Toronto.
This might oak tree which is some 90 years old weathered the storm without any damage.
The ice coated Earls Court community of Toronto looking south.
Meanwhile inside my rental property....
After 48 hours without power and an overnight low of -20C approaching, I was tasked with draining the pipes and shutting down the hotwater-gas heating system to prevent damage.
Without power, the furnace pump was not operating, the water in the rads was still and becoming stagnant. The building plumbing was also at risk, with all the tenets having gone to friends places, it was safe to drain all the water from the building.
As I vented the heating system I was watching the steam from my breath and noticed a 4C reading in the boiler room. I was really worried about the pipes!
Draining the rads and hotwater gas system in any building is not quick or particularly easy.
By some miracle, the power came back on just before midnight and all my effort was for nothing but at least my mind was at ease.
